"The Corruption that prevailed in St Albans"
This is how the Prime Minister, The Earl of Derby, referred to the electoral scandal that enveloped St Albans in the mid 1800s. Join members of St Albans and Hertfordshire Architectural and Archaeological Society for an immersive evening as they recreate some of the key moments. These include the hearing before the Parliamentary Commission and the ensuing debates in both Houses of Parliament which led not only to St Albans losing both its MPs for 34 years, but also to the passing of the Corrupt Practices Act designed to deal with the issue nationally.
This event will take place in the actual courtroom where the Parliamentary Commission heard evidence.
