Have you got a local lock-up?
Rosalind Crone (Resident historian for Lady Killers with Lucy Worsley) shines a light on an important institution within our historic criminal justice system which has been hiding in plain sight - the local lock-up.
Hundreds of historic lock-ups survive in villages and towns across England and Wales.
Using information collected on these surviving lock-ups together with evidence of those demolished long ago - available at prisonhistory.org - this talk will explore some key trends in the rise and fall of the parish lock-up across the 18th and 19th centuries.
