Inspired by St Albans Museum + Gallery's cells and courtroom this exhibition explores the history of criminal justice and the different ways in which local communities have dealt with crime, from the Iron Age to today.

"Catching the Chain" is a phrase used in prison communities to refer to leaving prison and re-entering society.

Our exhibition partners include a wide range of organisations and individuals with lived experience inside and outside the criminal justice system.

Please note the videos in the exhibition contain flashing lights, strobe effects and rapid image transitions that may affect some viewers. Please speak to museum staff for further advice.

There will be a whole series of associated performances and events within the museum and across the city - check our social media and website for details.
