South Asia is a massive geographic area, and includes eight modern countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The UK has a long and complex history with these countries. It has been enriched, both nationally and locally, by the movement of people, goods and ideas that has occurred over thousands of years.

A new temporary exhibition, Generations: Stories from South Asian St Albans, opens at St Albans Museum + Gallery in July 2025. We are looking for local communities and individuals with a connection to South Asia to get involved in taking part, sharing their stories and shaping the exhibition.

To prepare for the exhibition we will be running various activities and projects, exploring different ways of storytelling through creativity, historical research and curation. You might want to take part in a project, or come along as a volunteer to assist, or both! Watch this space as more opportunities will be added in the coming months.
