As part of our Catching the Chain season St Albans Arts team are hosting an evening of Folk Noir & Folk Rock in the Courtroom. The evening will include songs inspired by stories of robbery, murder and other crimes including three new songs from Vik commissioned for the exhibition.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to Victim Support UK.

Vík
Vík is the creative output of singer/ songwriter Jess Distill and guitarist Nick Losse. Described as 'Norse Gothic', Vík is born of wanderlust and a love for the Icelandic landscape. Jess's spellbinding words weave around Nick's ethereal guitars resulting in a haunting modern take on classic folk themes. Expect murder, love, witchcraft and a few surprises along the way.'
Vík will be performing some songs specially commissioned for the Catching the Chain exhibition.
The Hanging Bandits
Local folk-rock band The Hanging Bandits bring a unique twist on the genre with engaging lyrics, eclectic song writing and a dose of brit pop. They pull from artists like The Jam, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Father John Misty. Their debut album, Domesticated Animals, is available now.
Awake Mother
Awake Mother are a new duo from the south of England. They are keen to share music from the folk tradition, reigniting old favourites and introducing you to new songs and tales from times gone by. Awake Mother are Minnie Birch and Kathleen P, two award winning, critically acclaimed musicians who have joined together to present something new and special in the folk tradition. Expect to be invited to sing and stomp along one moment and have your heart strings pulled the next. We look forward to performing for (and maybe with) you.
DJ Eddie (Empire Records)
DJ Eddie has been DJing since the age of 12, and spins discs regularly at Mad Squirrel and irregularly elsewhere, alongside his full-time job at Empire Records. His vast and varied collection and eclectic tastes mean his all-vinyl sets always keep the crowd entertained.
