From a quick cuppa during the working day to luxurious Afternoon Tea the chance to enjoy a cup of tea is a familiar moment in many peoples’ lives today. In this exhibition we explored tea from leaf to cup including everything from how you boil your water to the best kind of cup or mug to use.
It was a great opportunity to look back at the tea houses and cafes of St Albans in the past, to explore what makes black tea different to green or white tea and travel across the Atlantic to a sugar plantation run by a St Albans landowner.
We also unpacked kettles, thermoses, delicate tea bowls and decorative teapots from our collection to show you what people in St Albans have drunk their tea in over the centuries. Some exhibition goers shared images of their favourite mugs with us, while others created brilliant new mug designs during their visit.
