Bathing has been jokingly described as "the Roman occupation". Baths, however, formed an important part of Roman life. Large public bath suites are known at Leicester and Wroxeter, military bath suites at Caerleon and Chesters, as well as smaller private suites on villa sites such as that at Welwyn.
