This talk focuses on houses and, in particular, the multisensory experience of living in Roman residences. Drawing on and comparing evidence of domestic life from Rome and Pompeii with examples from Roman Britain, it will explore some of the similarities and differences of life at the heart and on the edge of Empire.
Dr Hannah Platts is a Senior Lecturer in Ancient History and Archaeology at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research focuses on multisensory experiences of the ancient Roman world and she has published widely in this area including her recent book Multisensory Living in Ancient Rome: Power and Space in Roman Houses.
