Our Inclusive Histories programme aims to make heritage widely accessible, and inclusive of our diverse communities.
Museums sometimes collect and keep 'oral histories' in their collections. These are usually recorded interviews with people who have experienced particular events, places or time periods. We have a team of volunteers and expert curators who conduct these interviews, and then they are often used in exhibitions or for research. Some people now do this for their own families - as a way of recording memories or finding out more.
In this introduction, an expert member of the museum team will talk you through the very basics of collecting oral history. This session is suitable for people who have no previous experience.
