South Asia is a massive geographic area, and includes seven modern countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. The UK has a long and complex history with these countries. It has been enriched, both nationally and locally, by the movement of people, goods and ideas that has occurred over thousands of years.

These free art and life-writing workshops explore Stories from South Asian St Albans from the perspectives of different generations. They are ideal for a parent, or older family member, to come along with one or two younger family members aged 10 - adult!

Over the course of three sessions you will be guided by a community artist and a professional writer, and work with your family member/s to create a piece of writing and artwork inspired by your life experiences, using images and themes from South Asia and St Albans.

These sessions are part of a season of events which will lead up to an exhibition at St Albans Museum + Gallery. Generations: Stories from South Asian St Albans will open on the 18th July 2025. Copies of your finished panels will be included in a group artwork in the exhibition, helping to tell the story of our local communities.
