Do you like meeting new people?  Love local history? Enjoy researching or sharing stories? If so, you could become part of our amazing team of volunteers.

Volunteering at St Albans Museums is a great way to develop your skills, while supporting us to enhance the experience of our visitors.

Oral history volunteers wanted

As part of our work for the upcoming temporary exhibition ‘Generations: Stories from South Asian St Albans’, we will be collecting oral histories with members of our South Asian communities between May and November 2025. 

The role would suit anyone who is interested in contemporary collecting and exhibitions and / or enjoys interacting with people. 

We are hosing a training session for anyone interesting in becoming an oral history volunteer on Sunday 27th April. If you would like to become an Oral History volunteer / attend the training please follow the instructions in the 'Join our volunteering team' section below. 

*There will be further opportunities for oral history volunteering beyond this project.

Other opportunities to get involved:

• Collecting visitor surveys (SAM+G or Verulamium Museum)

• Family / Community activity support volunteers

Types of opportunities we offer:

Regular volunteering e.g: schools workshop support

These require a level of regular commitment, set time slots.

Irregular volunteering e.g: family craft activities, visitor surveys

No regular commitment, set time slots.

Flexible volunteering e.g: research, transcribing oral history recordings

No set time slots or commitment, volunteer from home / remotely.

Some opportunities are recruited for regularly (family craft activities, collecting visitor surveys), but others (collections documentation, exhibitions) are recruited for occasionally or only once.
