Museum Assistants
Our team of Museum Assistants look after the day-to-day running of our sites. Tickets for events can be booked online or by telephoning the museums directly.

Farhana Begum (Arts, Tourism, Culture and Heritage Manager)
This role focuses on delivering a high quality museums service in partnership with our stakeholders, aiming to make St Albans City and District a centre of excellence for culture and heritage.

Catherine Newley (Audience Development Manager)
Catherine leads on developing new and existing audiences in order to increase access to and engagement with our collections and programmes. She manages the Audience Development Team, including the Curators and Learning and Engagement Officer.

Jo is responsible for the day-to-day running of Verulamium Museum, including managing our Visitor Services team.

Eleanor Payne (Commercial Services Manager)
Eleanor is responsible for the commercial offer at our museums with responsibilities for income generation across venue hire, catering and retail areas of the Museum service.

Rebecca Davies (Commercial Services Officer)

Katie Arnold (Commercial Services Assistant)

Alex Nott (Marketing Officer)
Alex is responsible for promoting the museums and for the museums' external communications, including PR, social media, website and print materials.

Tom Lucas (Archaeologist)
Tom is responsible for developing, maintaining and advancing the knowledge of archaeology for St Albans City and District. He provides professional advice on archaeology finds and digs to external archaeology contractors and oversees research on archaeological archives, identifying opportunities for transfers to the museum's collections. His working pattern is Monday - Wednesdays 10am-4pm

David Thorold (Curator, Pre-historic to Medieval)
Based at Verulamium Museum, David looks after collections from pre-historic times to the Medieval era. He is an archaeologist with particular expertise in coins.

Sarah Keeling (Curator, Post Medieval to Contemporary)
Sarah looks after collections from the 15th Century to the present day. She oversees much of the temporary exhibition programme at St Albans Museum + Gallery, working closely with community groups to develop exhibitions and events.

Matt Fittock (Finds Liaison Officer)
Matt records archaeological finds discovered by members of the public.
This post is funded by the DCMS as part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Matt is based at Verulamium but works across Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire.
Finds & treasure appointments: please email matthew.fittock@stalbans.gov.uk to book an appointment to bring in finds or treasure.
Treasure: If you have something you think is treasure - please do report this to us. Objects that count as treasure (broadly) are: objects comprised mostly of silver or gold and more than 300 years old; 2 or more coins of silver or gold and more than 300 years old (a single coin is not treasure); 10 or more coins of bronze and more than 300 years old; more than 1 item of pre-historic metalwork from the same find spot.
