Robert Verrill

Robert Verrill’s work uses common and banal found materials for their instantly relatable nature. His works are direct and simple, leaving space for the viewer’s imagination to wander. He focuses on our often dysfunctional, exploitative and consumerist relationship with the natural world.

During the artist’s time at college, he produced works by observing other people’s processes and relationships with materials, equipment and workshop spaces. In the film Sweeping Dust, Verrill performs a basic task - peripheral activities like this are usually hidden or unnoticed in workplaces such as colleges, shops and building sites.

Robert Verrill is a practicing Artist of 20 years standing and an Art Teacher at Insight School of Art in north London. Verrill has a background is in town planning and architecture. His work involves predominantly performance, installation, sculpture and video.

Verrill graduated from Wimbledon College of Art (UAL) with a MFA Fine Art (Distinction) (2019). He has exhibited widely in group and solo shows for many years, including the last two Eastern Approaches exhibitions (2014, 2015) at the former St Albans Museum. In the latter of these he was awarded the Lambert Smith Hampton prize.

Hertfordshire Open 2020

This artwork was selected for the first Hertfordshire Open Exhibition. The exhibition online galleries are hosted between www.uharts.co.uk and www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk and will be launched in stages throughout April 2020.

Over 180 artists with links to Hertfordshire submitted their work to be part of the inaugural exhibition. Chosen by an independent panel of judges, the exhibition features 80 stunning works by the 50 selected artists, creating an exciting mix of work by established artists alongside emerging talent and first-time exhibitors.
