Fljóta, 2019, Etching and thread on Japanese paper
Eleanor Havsteen-Franklin’s prints are inspired by detailed hand-drawn studies of flora and fauna. These drawn elements are incorporated into homogenous images which create objects suggestive of bodily and organic forms.
The exploration of surface is an important aspect of Havsteen-Franklins practice. Playing with the copper plates during the etching process, a dialogue is created between random surface impressions and the drawn line. The surface begins to allude to the molecular and tactile nature of the print, evocative of the changing textures of ‘living’ surfaces such as human and plant physiology.
Eleanor Havsteen-Franklin
Eleanor Havsteen-Franklin was born in Denmark. She moved to the UK in 1994, completing a BA in Fine Art with Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire (1997). Following this, she trained as an Art Psychotherapist. In July 2007 the artist finished her MA in Printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts, London.
Hertfordshire Open 2020
This artwork was selected for the first Hertfordshire Open Exhibition. The exhibition online galleries are hosted between www.uharts.co.uk and www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk and will be launched in stages throughout April 2020.
Over 180 artists with links to Hertfordshire submitted their work to be part of the inaugural exhibition. Chosen by an independent panel of judges, the exhibition features 80 stunning works by the 50 selected artists, creating an exciting mix of work by established artists alongside emerging talent and first-time exhibitors.
