Harry Woodgate’s practice combines vivid digital imagery with print and collage, resulting in rich and eye-catching artworks. Recurring themes include quirky diverse characters, a love of the absurd, visual metaphors and exaggerated perspectives.
Many of the artist’s works look at contemporary political issues surrounding LGBT+ and queer identities, income inequality, environmentalism and climate activism. Woodgate’s illustrations are imbedded in a belief that art can connect, inspire and help us to build a kinder, fairer society .
Harry Woodgate
Harry Woodgate studied BA (Hons) Illustration at the Arts University Bournemouth (2016-17) and the University of Hertfordshire (2017-19), graduating with First Class Honours last September.
Woodgate’s work has been recognized in a number of international award schemes, including the Batsford Prize (2017, 18); YCN Student Awards (2017, 18); V&A Illustration Award (2019); Penguin Student Design Award (2017, 18) and the Folio Society Book Illustration Competition (2018, 19). Their previous exhibitions include Invisible Cities at the University of Hertfordshire (2018); Creative Attraction: Degree Shows 2019, at the University of Hertfordshire (2019); D&AD New Blood, at The Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch (2019); and All You Can Eat, at Walthamstow Village Picture Gallery (2019). Woodgate also regularly exhibits at art and illustration fairs across London and Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Open 2020
This artwork was selected for the first Hertfordshire Open Exhibition. The exhibition online galleries are hosted between www.uharts.co.uk and www.stalbansmuseums.org.uk and will be launched in stages throughout April 2020.
Over 180 artists with links to Hertfordshire submitted their work to be part of the inaugural exhibition. Chosen by an independent panel of judges, the exhibition features 80 stunning works by the 50 selected artists, creating an exciting mix of work by established artists alongside emerging talent and first-time exhibitors.
