St Albans Museum + Gallery: information for families

At St Albans Museum + Gallery families can enjoy enjoy free entry to a programme of changing exhibitions, see the stunning Georgian Assembly Room, venture underground to the police cells, and climb the steps to the dock of the Victorian courtroom which is now a café. 

Our opening hours are Monday – Sunday 11am-5pm. Free entry. Suggested time for exploring – 30 minutes.

We also offer:

  • Accessible toilets with baby changing facilities
  • Buggy parking available
  • Kids packed lunch boxes from our cafe

Especially for our family visitors to St Albans Museum + Gallery we offer:

  • Printed trails to help families learn and explore
  • Dressing up to take on the role of a character from our city’s rich history
  • Handling genuine historical artefacts with one of our friendly team
  • Explorer buckets for our youngest visitors to investigate the museum too
  • Seasonal trails linked to our current exhibitions

Our opening hours are Monday-Friday: 10am- 4.30pm (last admission at 4pm)
Saturday: 11am- 3.30pm (last admission at 3pm)

Admission to Verulamium Museum

Family Ticket (2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + up to 4 children) - £23.00
(Adult - £10.00, Child (under 16s) - £5.00, Under 5 - Free)

Residents of St Albans City & District get discounted entry to Verulamium Museum:
Family Ticket (2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + up to 4 children) - £18.00 (Adult - £8.00, Child (under 16s) - £4.00, Under 5s - Free)

If you're a regular visitor we recommend joining us as a Friend of St Albans Museums which gives you free entry to Verulamium Museum for a year.

Suggested time for exploring – 1 hour

Also available:

  • Buggy parking available
  • Lifft to reach the accessible toilet and separate baby changing area in the basement 

Note that there is no café at Verulamium Museum

Especially for our family visitors to Verulamium Museum we offer:

  • Handling genuine historical artefacts with one of our friendly team
  • Explorer buckets for our youngest visitors to investigate the museum too
  • Arch building and mosaic activities to imagine being a Roman craft worker

For an additional charge of £2 per activity children can create something to take home in one of our seasonal Crafts in the Colonnade.
