Here you can find more information about what we have available to support your visit to our museum.
There are two sets of doors at the entrance to the museum. The double doors to the left can be pushed open. The double doors to the right open automatically inwards.
The doors are approached from the right by a set of shallow stairs or from the left by a ramp and level access.
Outside the museum, there is a pay and display car park with two disabled parking bays directly to the right of the museum entrance. The nearest train station is St Albans Abbey on the other side of Verulamium Park. There are also bus routes that stop either just around the corner from the museum (S7) or on Verulam Road (about a 10 minute walk).
Busy times for the museum are Mondays - Fridays 10am - 2.30pm when we usually have several school classes at a time. Saturday mornings can also be quite busy. Afternoons tend to be quieter times to visit.
On entering the museum, you will be greeted by a member of our Visitor Services team. There is an admission charge for entering the museum. This is listed to the left of the desk, on a poster between the two sets of double doors outside and on our website. Carers or personal assistants can accompany someone for free.
Also in this entrance area is our museum shop. You are welcome to take a look around here at the start of your visit but you will also exit the museum the same way so you will have another chance to look around.
Once you have bought your ticket, you enter the museum along the colonnade (a long corridor with windows down one side).
The time it takes you to visit the museum will depend on your level of interest - visitors tend to stay between 45 minutes and an hour and a half.
Visitor toilets are located in the basement of the museum. These can be accessed via a set of stairs at the front of the museum in the shop or via a lift which is located just behind the front desk. There is one accessible toilet and a separate space that can be used for a private space away from other visitors.
We have a number of resources available to support your visit. These include:
